Peep some INK on these ROCK SOLID guys.
To date Dean and Derek have accumulated over 100 episodes of ROCK SOLID and INDOORS OUT, they have hosted the PILLAR AWARDS for NAHB ASSOCIATION at The DORAL GOLF RESORT in Miami, and have hosted TV specials for THE INTERNATIONAL BUILDERS SHOW in Orlando and for THE COVERINGS SHOW in Chicago. Currently, they are filming Season 4 of DIY's INDOORS OUT. Traveling the country, working with new products and representing them on national TV keep Dean and Derek busy. They still keep their craft of stonework sharp with their company Stearns Stone Works located south of Boston. From teaching classes around the country to trying out new products with their company, Dean and Derek are true hands on craftsmen within the construction world.
Dean studied acting in NYC at The William Epser Studio, working directly with Bill Esper. In New York he worked in Theatre and Improv. Off-Broadway he portrayed Bobby Kennedy in "The History of JFK" with The About Face Theatre Co. In LA he did many Disney movies including; Balloon Farm starring Rip Torn, Toothless starring Kristi Alley and Lynn Redgrave, and a part in the movie The Mod Squad.
Derek learned the trade of stone masonry from his father, Arthur. Summers were spent with him and his cousins laboring and learning the craft of stone cutting. Always having the desire to pursue the studies of acting, Derek left construction to study with the Trinity Repertory Company where earned his Equity Union Membership. Traveling to New York and studying with Michael Shurtlefffor over 10 years. Stearns eventually became a union member of AFTRA and SAG.
With his union status he found himself working in over 50 regional theatre productions, several feature and independent films and representing principal roles in commercials such as FILENE'S BASEMENT, CITIZENS BANK, DUNKIN DONUTS, MEGABUCKS and McDONALDS. Always keeping his hands in the trade that he learned from his family, Stearns survived for the next twenty years honing his craft as an actor and stone mason. Two worlds that eventually came together in landing the co-host job of ROCK SOLID, a national TV show on the DIY Network. ROCK SOLID brought Derek and his cousin Dean Marsico together as a team bringing viewers into the world of working with stone. From small homeowner friendly projects to larger projects with several crews Stearns and Marsico found themselves on the cutting edge of new products and techniques.
